Writing About Behavior From Chari Dalsheim, a second grade teacher at Heath School, presently on child rearing leave, in Brookline, Massachusetts: "When I have students in a disagreement, I sometimes have them write about their feelings and their side of the story. Then they trade papers and write each other an answer. Sometimes it is quite effective. Often I need to be the mediator, but as the year goes on, the children end up helping each other. Fostering independence empowers everyone. Of course the children who need help writing receive assistance. This is time consuming initially, but as the year progresses the routine goes into place quite nicely." |
